Multiple Streams of Income

This is really a simple concept that has been used as long as there has been business. Why do you suppose when someone opens up a retail store they have lots of different options? So that there is a greater chance that everyone will find something they want or need — to multiply the chances of making a sale.

There are other reasons why the concept of multiple streams of income is brilliant for any business. For example, the one most often quoted by Internet affiliate marketers, is the idea that if one thing is not doing well, something else may be doing great. Hence the bottom line will not suffer.

If you have a portfolio of programs that you promote for referrals and sales, you can use any one of them as a ‘funnel ‘program. That means that you may have attracted a particular customer to one individual opportunity and now may use that ‘inroad’ to approach them about another one of the programs you are promoting.

Many times particularly if you join a free or very low cost program, the commissions until you upgrade will be paltry. With multiple streams of income you would look at them as an aggregate. That is adding together all of the small sums from your various opportunities you will come up with a nice amount of money after a while.

This is also an incentive to work very hard to keep your sales volume up so that you add together all the small sums; whereas looking forward to a $1 commission would be a little difficult to get excited enough about to continually keep yourself motivated.

Multiple streams of income is a very productive concept because again, you have a greater chance of attracting more people than if you have only one narrow niche or market to offer people. There will be those who may have some objection to some program because they have heard something negative, or because they do not like a product. No need in losing their business completely if you have something that they can like.

It is important to note here that having one website or business ‘umbrella’ that has all of your multiple streams of income included, is the only logical way to handle this. If you try to look at each program individually and feel you must promote them separately, it would be very cumbersome. You would be duplicating your efforts over and over again for each business.

If you look at it like one business with multiple streams of income, then you can do everything to advertise only once. Make sure your site is well-organized, with menus and sitemaps so that people do not become confused when trying to find the program that they are after.

Home Business – Following Directions vs. Flying Blind

While there are some things that one could do through trial and error without having directions, some you just wouldn’t. For instance baking a cake – you are likely to have a big mess without a recipe. That is because there are some technical aspects that require exact measurements. In this case it is leavening to flour to liquid that all has to be balanced perfectly.

Starting a home business is something that you might do with trial and error. However this could become very expensive and waste time if you really didn’t know what you were doing. For example you could be using some strategy that had its day back in the 1980’s and just doesn’t fly very well today. It may still work to some degree if it ever worked, but surely you would rather spend your time and money on something that is more up-to-date.

Many times people come to the table thinking that they know what to do. They may have heard something from a friend or read something in passing. However if you have joined a program that includes training, it would be a much better idea to pay attention to the training first. At least consider what a proven expert is sharing with you.

If you find that you don’t like what he is saying, for example his ideas cost additional money to implement, that’s ok. Keep reading. Keep learning everything you can about the technique. Make a note of what it is and how it works, the cost, etc. Who knows, someday you may realize it would be ok to invest a few dollars in your business and save yourself some time.

The point however is not to throw out the baby with the bathwater. Do not waste the training because you don’t feel you can afford something contained therein. Make the best use of every resource that you can. Don’t cop an attitude like ‘it figures, you have to have money to make money’ and shut the door on yourself. You may be very surprised that either within that same training you later find many ways to do more or less the same thing for less money or even no money. But you will never know that if you stop reading.

With no direction, you can flounder around indefinitely, spinning your wheels, always looking for the answer and never finding it – or worse – finding it many times and ignoring it because you never feel you know enough to actually try something and of course you feel you can’t afford to have it done for you right now. So you do nothing but waste your time.

No matter how much you believe you know, take advantage of every resource that comes across your path and make the best use of it you can for the present or future.

Home Business Blogger – Is Your Writing Emotional Enough?

There are a few beliefs about using ‘power words’ and ‘emotional writing’ for your blog, your emails and your other advertising. ‘They’ say that if you don’t grab somebody’s attention in the first few seconds you are likely to lose them altogether. Even if they do stay, if your writing is flat and they feel bored, they probably won’t stick around to finish reading your document.

emotional writing

For an example let’s compare text books with novels. Isn’t it the text books that you had to force yourself to read when you were in school? Did you really have to make an effort not to fall asleep or to zone out while you are reading (and not remember a thing you read)? The text book has its purpose and value for sure – to give the facts and statistics; but entertaining they are not. Novels on the other hand can be exciting and entertaining and hold your interest.

With business writing you want a happy medium. You do want to be seen as serious and knowledgeable – you do have your facts straight, and can communicate them clearly; but you want it to be more emotional and exciting so as to compel someone to want more information or to transact a sale outright.

In the case of an Internet home business it is actually a little more casual than a regular business, so you also want to convey that you are friendly and a potential ally. You have something in common with the people you are trying to reach. They can talk to you if they want to and you will try to help them to answer any questions or concerns they might have. You have similar concerns and may speak from your own experience or if very new, can quote either your mentor or coach or a public document with credit for the author.

There are various lists of ‘power words’ that professional bloggers and Internet marketing writers refer to and it makes it super easy to use those words that will make your document exciting and compelling rather than ho-hum and boring. An excellent resource is this site, and there are some good lists here although there are many more lists you may be able to find just by searching for them.

Besides being a resource with real value that you can use freely, this is also an example of how the site’s owner, Jon Morrow, really endears himself to people by giving freely of what information that he has. You will note he does not miss the opportunity to have a few lead capture portals such as free reports in exchange for your email address. He is also wise enough to monetize his site by having a page with his own products that are for sale.
